The Warring States Period (戦国時代, sengoku jidai) in Japanese history was a time of constant military conflict between provincial lords after the previous government collapsed. Lords around the surrounding domains were building up military power and established regulations for their retainers and the Farmer class. This peroid lasted roughly from the middle of the 15th century to the beginning of the 17th century. It is also called the Sengoku Period and the "Warring Country Peroid".
What caused it?[]
It was said to have begun after the Onin War, which ended the manorial (feudal) system and brought destruction to the capital of Kyoto.
When central authorities --the Imperial Court and the bafuku (also called Shogunate)--began to wane and looked upon as insignificant, over one-hundred daimyo found this an opportunity to rise and gather lands on their own.
